My husband and I recently had an extended stay at the Hotel Grand Pacific. What a great place! From our suite the view of the Inner Harbour was spectacular. There was always some activity to watch in this busy spot. Being prairie people, the water is spellbinding for us. Our suite was lovely, spacious and we felt like royalty being there. The entire facility is grand – you do not require me to point this out, it is obvious to anyone who enters the property. As beautifully appointed as this hotel is, that is not the only thing that brings us back year after year.
Mr. James, you have surrounded yourself with a very fine group of people in all areas of the hotel. If I was to make a list of staff that impressed us, it would be very long indeed.
One of your housekeepers stands out, in my mind, as exceptional. Her name is Emily Li. We encountered her a number of times in our time with you. She is very particular in the performance of her duties, our suite was spotlessly clean when she was finished. However, doing her duty is not why I single out Emily. It is about the things she does that are not necessarily part of her duties. She offers valuable information about touring, shopping, dining, traffic, and current local activities.
One of my hobbies is a type of hand quilting, known as English Paper Piecing. Emily admired it one day while she was in our room. I commented on my lack of knowledge about quilt or fabric shops in the general area. The next morning I found a sticky note on the door with a list of shops that handle fabric and their addresses; what a nice thing to do! Another time I suggested that I should try to get into a sewing class in order to access a sewing machine. Emily offered to bring her machine from home for me to use for the remainder of my visit. Really! This little lady is a shining example of “above and beyond“. Emily, like many of your staff, greets your guests with a smile, calls us by; name, wishing us “a good day“.
I see Emily as a pivotal part of your organization. When I think of her, I smile and that is what life is all about.
We have come to love Victoria and hope to return in 2019. Thank-you for everything. We had a wonderful time.
