Our July winner is known throughout Victoria simply as Reverend Al. Wrote W. Johannesma of Victoria:
I would like to nominate Reverend Allen Tysick!
He played a major role in creating, renovating and overhauling Our Place but ended up with a lot of administrative work!
When he turned 65 he found it was time to move on. He started a new organization called The Dandelion Society to serve the most vulnerable members of our community. He wakes up very early in the morning and, operating out of a van, visits the homeless on the street bringing coffee, sandwiches, donuts and most of all hope and Love with a capital “L”. He understands them, knows how to find and talk to them and is often able to help them. He also visits our brothers and sisters in the hospital or jail. He is very humble and special – one of a kind. Boy, what an example for all of us to follow, if even in a small way.
Without a doubt, Rev. Al is one of the most wonderful human beings I have ever met. He surely deserves this award.
